This Machine Killed Cancer

Tonight I got angry at cancer. All of the things Shayne and I don’t get to have right now: a wedding, a farm, a normal schedule, my MFA, Shayne’s career, or even the ability to lay by the pool in the sun for the afternoon.

I wanted to scream. Say this is not fair. I couldn’t see past this hospital room and its too short couch. Maybe if I unhooked Shayne from his IV, we could walk right out of this hospital and cancer would forget about us. It would be a bad joke we never got the punch line to…

Then Kyle (who is more awesome than words) tagged me in a video on Facebook and none of that mattered. 

I might sound like a broken record, but the folks who have supported us (across oceans, people we’ve never met, ones who we least expected) mean all the world to us. Who cares about weddings and houses and an expensive MFA? All of those things come and go, but true friends are worth more than their weight in gold (or platinum or anti-matter).

So once again, thanks for your photos. Your random e-mails or calls. Thanks for working on benefits and walking all night for a cure. Thanks for dinner and watching Otis. Thanks for just making us laugh. And thanks for this:
